GLADSTONE, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Monday, three Michigan law enforcement officers were honored for their lifesaving response to a fire at Gladstone’s A New Dahn Rising assisted living home on May 30.

Early that morning, Gladstone Public Safety Officer Dylan Nadeau-Enright responded to a report of flames coming from the back of the building.

“My thoughts were, ‘You’ve just got to act,'” he told WZMQ 19. “‘You’ve got to get in there and you’ve got to do something.'”

Michigan State Police (MSP) troopers Stephen Strom and Isaac Cooper arrived to help. Together, the team rescued five residents trapped inside the building.

“We were able to do what is expected of us,” said Nadeau-Enright. “Situations like that can go south really quick, so the fact that myself and the troopers were able to do what we did in an efficient fashion, I’m just grateful that no one got hurt.”

At Monday’s Gladstone City Commission meeting, Gladstone Public Safety Director Ron Robinson presented Nadeau-Enright, Strom, and Cooper with lifesaving awards for their actions. The three accepted their awards in front of the commissioners, friends, family, and colleagues, including several MSP personnel.

“Without their quick response, which was in two minutes, we probably would’ve had some fatalities in that fire, unfortunately,” Robinson said. “It’s important to recognize that these guys prepare for duty every single day. No matter what time of the day, no matter what time of the night it is, they’re there to do their job. Thankfully, they were on duty and were able to get there and save lives.”
