MARQUETTE,MICH. (WZMQ) – The Marquette City Commission held its regularly scheduled meeting Monday night in city hall.
On the agenda was a report on the status of the police and fire pension board, the naming of Marquette’s skate park, and the passing of land development code amendments. These amendments cover a wide variety of issues associated with future development. Marquette City Manager Karen Kovacs explains that these amendments are put in place to make development easier while still fitting in with the city’s master plan.
“This is a living, breathing document that evolves as it needs to or as we can address some of these bigger issues that we have within our community and for development,” said Kovacs. “And so that’s what you saw tonight was the following the recommendation of the planning commission to approve these amendments.”
The commission also heard public comment asking for legal safeguards for Marquette’s homeless population and the problem with parking along South Lake Street at South Beach. The commission agreed to re-visit these issues at a later date.
