MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Marquette Independence Day Boat Parade took its laps in Lower Harbor on Thursday night.

Boaters from the Cinder Pond Marina brought together their vessels in celebration, decked in as many American flags and string lights as they could get their hands on. Boats were recognized in three categories: most dramatic light display, most spirited, and most original Fourth of July theme.

Thousands of spectators were already gathered along the dock ahead of the fireworks show, cheering on the parade as they waited.

“I try to make it down every year,” said attendee, Mark Shevy. “Being up north, the sunset so late that it’s hard for me to stay awake sometimes, but it’s always worth it. Right now, the boat parade is going by, people are throwing candy, and kids are scrambling for that, and it’s fun to watch. When that settles down we have the fireworks, it’s just amazing.”

Around 20 boats participated in this years parade.
