Ishpeming parts way with PR firm Siren Strategies

by Scott Minshall
April 11, 2024

ISHPEMING, Mich. (WZMQ) – The city of Ishpeming will no longer employ a public relations firm to handle city communications

Ishpeming has used siren strategies since April of 2023 to centralize the city’s communication with residents and media; Siren notified the city last month it would not be offering a renewal for Ishpeming’s contract.

The PR firm will remain with the city until May 31st as an off Boarding period while Ishpeming goes back to handling its own communication services.

During its year with the city, Siren says they were able to increase the city’s social media presence, improve communication with residents, and support various governmental departments.

The following statement was sent to 19 News by Siren Strategies CEO Adela Piper:

“We are extremely proud of everything we have accomplished with Ishpeming, most importantly setting them up for future success when it comes to providing clear, powerful communication to their residents. While the decision not to offer a renewal to Ishpeming was difficult, we recognized it was in everyone’s best interests. We will continue supporting them during the offboarding period, which we initiated on March 28 and Council formally accepted last night, and wish them all the best moving forward.”

Throughout our contract with Ishpeming, we:

  • Established communication as a priority, identifying audience segments and key messaging to inspire confidence and foster transparency
  • Helped launch and actively maintained Channel 189, providing a new way for residents to get critical information from the City outside of the news or social media
  • Conducted community-wide surveys and hosted engagement sessions so that residents could directly share their priorities for the City
  • Supported the Mayor, City Manager, and multiple City departments, including police, fire, library, DPW, and more
  • Grew social media audience more than 15 percent, and increased engagement 237 percent compared to the 12-month period prior to our partnership
  • Placed nearly 300 local media stories, plus secured coverage from regional and national media
