HARVEY, Mich. (WZMQ) – The fall may just be starting, but in the Upper Peninsula, winter can come at any time.
And one local church is already getting ready.
Silver Creek Church is bringing back Operation Winter Wear for another year, an annual community outreach providing new and like-new coats and winter clothing to individuals and families in need. Distribution runs October 14th through the 16th at Silver Creek Church on Silver Creek Road in Harvey.
Appointments are available Wednesday and Thursday starting at noon, with walk-ins welcome Friday from noon to three pm.
Pastor of Silver Creek Church, Kevin Taylor, says the moment families walk through the door says it all. “There have been times where I will see a mom that’s here picking up coats for her family, and I will see tears running down her face,” says Taylor. “It really provides something that they were very concerned they would not be able to provide for their family.”
Donations of new or like-new coats are also being accepted at Silver Creek Church and Silver Creek Thrift through October 12th.
