ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Downtown Escanaba is gearing up for a Halloween event where every child can feel included.
On Sunday, October 18, the DDA will host its fourth annual Spooktacular Trunk-or-Treat. The event will take place at the Center Court, located at 11th Street and Ludington Street, from 4 to 6 p.m.
Kids are invited to wear their Halloween costumes for an afternoon of fun, games, activities, and collecting treats. The trunks will be decorated by local businesses, which will compete to win prizes.
The Spooktacular Trunk-or-Treat is a partnership with the Teal Pumpkin Project of Delta County, which helps communities make Halloween inclusive for children with dietary restrictions. In addition to or in place of candy, all trunks will offer non-food items like bubbles, spider rings, stickers, and other small toys.
“My own child has food allergies, and it can feel really dreadful going into a Halloween season, or any holiday for that matter,” said event coordinator Samantha Gaudino. “This event just brings a lot of hope to those families that for a day, their kid can participate just like every other kid, without much to worry about.”
