MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Grief touches every family, and this evening, one organization invited the community to better understand it.
The Cedar Tree Institute hosted a free public presentation titled “Why Does it Hurt – the Genesis of Grief” at Messiah Lutheran Church.
The evening featured Dr. Greg Fricchione, director of the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine in Boston and Associate Chief of Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital, offering insight into the origins of grief and its connections to emotional, mental, and physical well-being.The event also included contemplative music from Tibetan singing bowls and a singer-songwriter, creating a reflective atmosphere for those in attendance.
Cedar Tree Institute Director John Magnuson says the evening was designed to meet people where they are. “I think what this event will bring is an invitation for people to reflect on their own lives,” says Magnuson. “An invitation for them to make decisions about their own rituals of grieving, their own experiences of grieving, their own experiences of loss.”
The presentation is the first in a four-part series on grief hosted by the Cedar Tree Institute in partnership with local hospices and Northern Michigan University.
