Delta County teacher’s aide accused of child abuse to stand trial

ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – In December of 2025, a Delta County teacher’s aide was arrested on one count of third-degree child abuse. She is now set to stand trial.

Coworkers of 54-year-old Robin Popour reported her to police after an incident with a special needs student at the Delta Schoolcraft ISD Learning Center. They said she grabbed the student by his shoulder, pushed him against a window, and left bruises on his arm. They also quoted her as saying she did not care if she lost her job for hitting the student.

On Tuesday, Popour was given 24 hours to consider a plea offer. If she pled guilty or no contest, she would have received a one-year delay of sentence for an assault and battery conviction. She would then have had to serve 25 days in jail, followed by two years of probation.

On Wednesday, Popour declined the plea offer. The case will now go to trial in December.

WZMQ 19 will continue to follow this case as it develops. For more information about the accusations made against Popour, click here.
