MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Democratic Governor Candidate Jocelyn Benson visited Marquette Thursday afternoon discuss her vision for the future of U.P. healthcare.
Benson was joined by 109th Democratic Candidate Anna Aho Rink, as well as other healthcare worers and residents outside of the former Planned Parenthood building, following its defunded shutdown in April 2025.
The placement of the event set the tone the group criticized outcomes of the One Big Beautiful Bill and its affect on rural care. Benson then introduced a plan to bring seven separate mobile healthcare systems around the U.P., and plans to allocate funds to try and rebuild the region’s loss to its providers.
“I’m seeing it all across northern Michigan; we cannot accept a future where your zip code determines whether or not you can see a doctor,” she said. “That is why as governor I will ensure every Michigander has access to quality, affordable healthcare in every zip code in Michigan.”
Benson also discussed plans for an independent prescription drug affordability board, and a requirement for hospitals to showcase their care costs up front.
