MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Michigan State Police (MSP) Computer Crimes Unit, Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force has announced the arrest of 24-year-old Morgan Charles Mitchell of Dalhart, Texas, for aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material, using a computer to commit a crime, and capturing an image of an unclothed person.
After officials learned Mitchell may have accessed and shared illicit content on the internet, an investigation was launched by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and the ICAC Task Force. At the time the tip was received, Mitchell was working seasonally on Mackinac Island. Law enforcement executed a search warrant at his residence and seized digital evidence.
Following the execution of the search warrant, Mitchell left Mackinac Island and returned to Texas. In collaboration with Texas law enforcement agencies, Mitchell was found and arrested. He waived extradition and was transported back to Michigan.
Mitchell was charged with five counts of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material, five counts of using a computer to commit a crime, and three counts of capturing or distributing an image of an unclothed person. Mitchell was arraigned in the 92nd District Court of Mackinac County on August 17.
The ICAC Task Force received assistance from the Mackinac County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, as well as the Dalhart Police Department and the Moore County Sheriff’s Department, both located in Texas.
