MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Mountain bikers are getting ready to hit the trails tomorrow for the 27th annual Ore to Shore mountain bike epic.
Riders gathered this afternoon to pick up their race materials and prepare for a full day of racing, with events ranging from a 50-yard kids race to the 48-mile Hard Rock.
Drivers should plan for some road closures and delays along the route. Traffic controls will be in place throughout ishpeming, negaunee, and along roads toward marquette as riders make their way to the finish.
“My favorite place to watchthe weekend go off is at the 48-mile start in downtown Negaunee,” says Nicole Swenson, the Ore to Shore Race Coordinator. “It’s just a picturesque area and then to have it filled with a bunch of bikes, and then when they set off that shooting gun, the hum of the tires… it’s just a ton of fun.”
The race begins tomorrow morning, with organizers encouraging drivers to use caution around cyclists and to plan ahead for delays.
