NEWBERRY, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Luce County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide that occurred in Newberry on July 19.
At approximately 7:15 p.m. that day, deputies responded to a reported stabbing in the 300 block of East John Street. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with a 47-year-old male victim who had been physically assaulted by a 21-year-old male. A second victim, a 40-year-old male, was found in the yard suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Despite emergency efforts, the 40-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The 47-year-old victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The 21-year-old suspect, who is accused of assaulting both individuals, remained at the scene and was taken into custody without further incident. All parties involved are residents of Newberry.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. Further details, including the identities of those involved, will be withheld pending family notification and formal arraignment.
