NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The sounds of summer filled Iron Street in Negaunee this evening.
The Negaunee City Band took the stage at the outdoor performing arts center for their Pioneer Days concert… treating the crowd to everything from Journey medleys and Wizard of Oz highlights to a trumpet solo of “Gabriel’s Oboe” by retired band director Randy Veale.
Director Lucas Wickstrom led the band through a diverse mix of marches, waltzes, Celtic hymns, and classic rock… closing out the night the way they always do, with a Dixieland version of “Just a Closer Walk with Thee.”
The setlist spanned decades and genre’s… from Percy Grainger’s classic Irish tune from County Derry to The Who’s “Pinball Wizard.”
The Negaunee City Band performs weekly summer concerts on Iron Street, free and open to the public.
