RAPID RIVER, Mich. (WZMQ) – A longstanding Delta County business has reopened under new management.
After shutting down in December of 2024, Garth Bluff Grocery is once again operational thanks to new owner Katie Cousineau. Cousineau is a familiar face to many, as she worked at Five Corners Market in Danforth for seven years.
“This came across my email one day, and it kind of just felt right, you know?” she said. “I’ve been told ‘no’ many times before in my life, so if I was told ‘no’ by this, it wasn’t going to hurt my feelings because I already had a job I loved at Five Corners Market. When I got a ‘yes,’ I was like, ‘This is for real!'”
Garth Bluff Grocery first opened in the early 1970s. Under her ownership, Cousineau aims to provide a welcoming place for both locals and tourists traveling through the area.
“My dream really growing up was just to be a positive impact somewhere in a community or something, no matter how big or small it was,” she said. “I feel like this gives me a really good leg into the community to be able to do that.”
Garth Bluff Grocery will begin selling alcohol and fuel in the next few months. Also in the near future, Cousineau plans to offer DNR licenses, lottery tickets, and a kitchen serving freshly made sandwiches and salads.
Located at 9787 County 513 T Road, Garth Bluff Grocery is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 9 a.m.m to 8 p.m. on Sunday. For more information, visit the Garth Bluff Facebook page.
