RAPID RIVER, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Monday, people from across Delta County and beyond traveled to Rapid River to celebrate 250 years of freedom in America.
The community’s annual Memorial Day parade took place on Main Street, led by American Legion Post 301. Organizations like the Rapid River Lions Club, the Delta Area Transit Authority, and Overdose Awareness of Delta County participated in the parade, along with political candidates running for office. A few of the veterans on last week’s U.P. Honor Flight also made a special appearance.
Memorial Day has become one of the biggest days of the year for Rapid River.
“We want it to be special,” said Memorial Day Committee member Sandy Deneau. “We want to honor our veterans and the military personnel who have sacrificed for us so that we can have such wonderful freedom in our country.”
Afterward, paradegoers moved to Masonville Township Park for food, live music, a kickball tournament, and family-friendly activities. Organizers also hosted a raffle to support student scholarships, local robotics programs, and the National Honor Society.
