Michigan Tech announces Cross Country and Track and Field recruiting class

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech cross country and track & field Head Coach Robert Young has announced the addition of 13 student-athletes for the 2026 signing class. The class is composed of 6 women and 7 men from four states, Illinois, Michigan, Montana and Wisconsin. 

“I’m really excited about this group that we’re adding to our roster this year,” said Young. “The talent and potential for continued growth among this group is as high as we could ask for and I expect that we will see some of these names in scoring positions for us really soon. Coach Moore was our main recruiter for the majority of this class and I want to commend him for doing a great job of keeping the future of our team very bright!

Abagail Baumann | Poplar Grove, Ill. | Rockford Lutheran
High School: 
Baumann is a 2026 graduate of Rockford Lutheran where she earned Academic Distinction honors all four years of high school and was recognized with the Fruit of the Spirit Award, the John Philip Sousa Band Award, the Certificate of Excellence in Engineering, and the Certificate of Excellence in Science. She excelled in both cross country and track & field while earning numerous conference, sectional, and state accolades. She was a two-time All-Conference selection in cross country, winning a regional championship as a senior after finishing runner-up as a junior. She also placed second at the sectional meet as a senior and capped her cross country career with a seventh-place finish at the IHSA Class 1A State Championships. A consistent state qualifier on the track, she earned All-State honors as a senior with third-place finishes in both the 1,600m and 3,200m at the IHSA Class 2A State Championships. She also concluded her high school career by winning both the 1,600m and 3,200m races at the IHSA Class 2A Top Times Meet after placing third in the 3,200m at the Class 1A Top Times Meet as a junior. She holds personal-bests of 1:02.63 for the 400m, 2:16.46 in the 800m, 4:52.51 in the 1,600m, 10:26.84 in the 3,200m and 16:50 in the 3 mile. 
Personal: Abagail is the daughter of Toni and Jeff. While at Michigan Tech she plans to earn a degree in geological engineering. 

Matthew Carbajo | Grosse Ile, Mich. | Grosse Ile HS
High School:
 Matthew is a 2026 graduate of Grosse Ile High School where he was a two-time state qualifier with personal-bests of 2:02 in the 800m, 4:33 in the 1,600m, 9:37 in the 3,200m and 15:57 for 5,000m. 
Personal: Carbajo plans to earn a degree in aerospace engineering. 

Lidia Clancy | Macomb, Mich. | Dakota HS
High School: 
Clancy is a 2026 graduate of Dakota High School where she graduated Summa Cum Laude and was a four-time state qualifier in cross country and a four-time state qualifier on the 4x800m relay team on the track. She was a four-time D1 Region 9 Cross Country All-Region and four-time MAC Red Cross Country All-Conference performer on the grass and holds career-bests of 1:00.5 for 400m, 2:19 for 800m, 5:12 for 1,600m and 18:58 for 5,000m.
Personal: Lidia is the daughter of Stephani and Keith. While at Michigan Tech she plans to earn a degree in environmental engineering. 

Adrian Clarke | Plymouth, Mich. | Plymouth HS
High School: 
Clarke is a 2026 graduate of Plymouth High School where he was the Men’s Athlete of the Year. He holds personal-bests of 52.3 for 400m, 1:57.5 for 800m, 4:29 for 1,600m and 15:44 for the 5k. 
Personal: Adrian is the son of Leonard and Vess. While at Michigan Tech he plans to earn a degree in cybersecurity. 

David DiGiallonardo | Polson, Mont. | Polson HS
High School:
 DiGiallonardo is a 2026 graduate of Polson High School where he graduated Summa Cum Lauda. He holds the school record in both the 1,600m and 3,200m as a three-time all-state performer on the track and a two-time all-state performer on the grass. He holds personal-bests of 1:58.77 in the 800m, 4:16.79 in the 1,600m, 9:29.22 in the 3,200m and 15:44 for 5k in cross country. 
Personal: David is the son of Lisa and Bob. While at Michigan Tech he plans to earn a degree in aerospace engineering. 

Clay Elmore | Madison, Wis. | West HS
High School:
 Elmore is a 2026 graduate of West High School where he was an AP Scholar with Distinction. He holds a personal-best of 9:37 for 3,200m. 
Personal: Clay is the son of Sarah and Steven. While at Michigan Tech he plans to earn a degree in materials science and engineering. 

Olive Halvorson | River Falls, Wis. | River Falls HS
High School:
 Halvorson is a 2026 graduate of River Falls High School where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. She was a 2025 WIAA All-State honorable mention and holds personal-bests of 2:19 in the 800m, 5:03 in the 1,600m, and 11:30 in the 3,200m.
Personal: Olive is the daughter of Kaitrin and Joshua. While at Michigan Tech she plans to earn a degree in ecological engineering. 

Raymond Herek | Williamston, Mich. | Williamston HS
High School:
 Herek is a 2026 graduate of Williamston High School where he was a two-time CAAC Red All-Conference performer. He holds personal-bests of 2:03.59 in the 800m, 4:24.65 in the 1,600m, 9:55.05 in the 3,200m and 16:21.9 in the 5,000m. He earned CAAC Scholar-Athlete honors, was named to the CAAC All-Conference Academic Team, received the Narda Murphy Student of Excellence Award, the Williamston High School Math Department Award, and the Science Department Award, and was recognized as a 2025 MITCA Cross Country Academic All-State selection.
Personal: Raymond is the son of Ray and Angie. While at Michigan Tech he plans to earn a degree in information technology. 

Rorik Holmquist | Marquette, Mich. | Marquette Senior HS
High School:
 Holmquist is a 2026 graduate of Marquette Senior High School where he was a two-time Kaufman Award Winner and the Marquette County Excellence in Education Recipient. Athletically, he was a two-time cross country All-State performer and a two-time cross country U.P. Dream team. He holds personal-bests of 4:24.84 in the 1,600m, 9:15.96 in the 3,200m and 15:57 in the 5k. 
Personal: Rorik is the son of Sven and Melissa. While at Michigan Tech he plans to earn a degree in chemical engineering. 

Ignatius Lipani | Arlington Heights, Ill. | Buffalo Grove HS
High School: 
Lipani is a 2026 graduate of Buffalo Grove High School where he finished his prep career with personal-bests of 4:34 for 1,600m, 9:34 for 3,200m and 15:06 for 3 miles. 
Personal: Ignatius is the son of Christen and Damian. While at Michigan Tech he plans to earn a degree in mechanical engineering. 

Tessa Rautiola | Houghton, Mich. | Houghton HS
High School: 
Rautiola is a 2026 graduate of Houghton High School where she was a member of the National Honors Society and a four-time academic All-State cross country honoree. She served as team captain for the 2025-26 cross country season. She earned First Team All-Conference honors in cross country in 2022 and was selected to the U.P. Dream Team three consecutive years (2022, 2023, and 2024). She was named the conference’s Most Valuable Distance Runner during both the 2023 cross country and track & field seasons and again earned West PAC Most Valuable Distance Runner honors in 2025. She captured Division 1 Upper Peninsula cross country championships in 2022 and 2024 and was recognized as Houghton High School’s Girls Cross Country MVP from 2022-24 and Girls Track & Field MVP from 2023-25. Additionally, she was named the West PAC Girls Runner of the Year in 2024. She holds personal-bests of 2:33.55 for the 800m, 5:31.4 in the 1,600m, 12:04.98 in the 3,200m and 19:11.6 for the 5k.
Personal: Tessa is the daughter of Jeff and Jane. While at Michigan Tech she plans to earn a degree in accounting. 

Rebekah Stachura | Otsego, Mich. | Otsego HS
High School: 
Stachura is a 2026 graduate of Otsego High School where she was an AP scholar and a Wolverine Conference Scholar Athlete. She was a four-time all-region performer over 3,200m and a three-time all-conference performer in cross country. She holds personal-bests of 5:26 for 1,600m, 11:43 for 3,200m and 19:11 for 5,000m. 
Personal: Rebekah is the daughter of Beth and Jason. While at Michigan Tech she plans to earn a degree in environmental engineering.  

Lucy VanHaerents | Royal Oak, Mich. | Royal Oak HS
High School:
 VanHaerents is a 2026 graduate of Royal Oak High School. She holds personal-bests of 5:44 in the 1,600m, 12:07 in the 3,200m and 19:32 in the 5,000m. 
Personal: Lucy is the daughter of Stephanie and Michael. She plans to earn a degree in mechanical engineering while at Michigan Tech.
