Michigan Tech will have eight newcomers on the hockey team

Four defensemen, three forwards and a goaltender

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech hockey and Head Coach Bill Muckalt welcome eight newcomers for the upcoming 2026-27 season. The group includes four defensemen, three forwards, and a goaltender. Two incoming student-athletes have NCAA experience, two come from USports, and the freshmen are from the USHL (2) and OHL (2).

The Huskies begin the season on October 2-3 against the Minnesota Gophers at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena and also play at St. Cloud State (Oct 9-10), against Alaska (Oct. 16-17), and at Ferris State (Oct. 23-24) in the first month of the season. Season ticket packages will be available starting on July 8.

Lucas Brenton • Univ. of Manitoba (USports) • Winnipeg, Man. • D • 6-4 • 212

Brenton is a big and strong puck-moving defenseman. He will be a character player with outstanding leadership qualities. He played last season with the University of Manitoba, appearing in 28 games and scoring three goals while adding 15 assists. Benton played the 2024-25 season in the ECHL with Indy, skating in 68 games and registering 17 points. He played over four seasons with Moose Jaw in the WHL, appearing in 230 games and tallying 53 points (seven goals, 46 assists). The Warriors won the WHL Ed Chynoweth Cup as playoff champions and played in the Memorial Cup.

Giovanni Morneau • Lindenwood Univ. (NCAA) • Ottawa, Ont. • F • 5-9 • 168

Morneau is a high-skilled centerman. He was named the NCAA D-I Independent Player of the Year and D-I Independent Rookie of the Year at Lindenwood University last season after tallying 31 points in 30 games. He scored 10 goals and added 21 assists to set the Lions program record for points in a season. Morneau was USports All-Canadian All-Rookie Team and Ontario University Athletic (OUA) Rookie of the Year with Carleton University during the 2024-25 season, registering 33 points in 28 games. He played two seasons and 123 games in the QMJHL with Charlottetown. He tallied 91 points with 35 goals and 56 assists and was an alternate captain in 2023-24.

Conner Roulette • Univ. of Saskatchewan (USports) • Winnipeg, Man. • F • 6-0 • 181

Roulette is an elite-level forward who was a fourth-round NHL Draft pick of the Dallas Stars in 2021, getting selected 111th overall. Last season at the University of Saskatchewan, he was named the USports Clare Drake Rookie of the Year and was on the All-Rookie Team. He tallied 35 points on 15 goals and 20 assists in 28 games. He added 12 points (five goals, seven assists) in six playoff games. Roulette played the 2024-25 season in the ECHL with Tulsa, skating in 59 games and tallying 34 points and was named the team’s Rookie of the Year. He played 259 games in the WHL over six seasons, tallying 288 points on 118 goals and 170 assists. He was named to the WHL Second All-Star Team with Spokane after registering 108 points in 68 games. He also played for Saskatoon and Seattle in his WHL career. Roulette won gold with Team Canada at the 2021 World U18 Championship, skating in seven games and tallying five points.

Luke Shipley • UMass Lowell (Hockey East) • Powell River, B.C. • D • 6-0 • 189

Shipley is a smooth-skating offensive right-shot defenseman. He began his NCAA career with 33 games at UMass Lowell in 2025-26 and tallied 12 points on two goals and 10 assists. Prior to college, Shipley skated in 271 WHL games over five seasons with Brandon and Victoria. He racked up 57 points in 60 games during the 2024-25 season with the Wheat Kings and was named to the WHL East Second Team All-Star Team.

Morgan Brady • Green Bay (USHL) • Woking, Alta. • D • 6-2 • 207

Brady is a tough-as-nails defenseman who is hard to play against and can play against a team’s top line. He played in 104 USHL games over the past two seasons with Waterloo and Green Bay. He began the 2025-26 season as an alternate captain with Waterloo and skated in 31 games, tallying six points. He was traded midseason and finished with 14 games for the Gamblers, registering three points and a plus-9 rating. Brady also played for Langley in the BCHL in 2023-24 and Spruce Grover in the AJHL in 2022-23 and was named to the AJHL North All-Rookie Team. 

Joey Costanzo • Windsor (OHL) • Toronto, Ont. • G • 6-1 • 185

Costanzo is an athletic and positional goaltender. He played the last five seasons and 197 games in the OHL and was a four-year starter for Windsor. Costanzo is one of seven goaltenders in the history of the OHL to win 100 games and had a record of 107-60-11 with nine shutouts. He went 32-11-5 in 2025-26 with a 2.16 goals-against average and .908 save percentage, ranking second in the OHL in GAA. During the postseason, Costanzo made 27 career playoff starts, posting a 2.56 GAA and a .903 save percentage. He holds the Spitfires record with 102 wins, games played (180), time on ice, total saves, and is second in shutouts (9). He began his OHL career with Niagara in 2021-22, appearing in 17 games.

Tristan Delisle • Owen Sound (OHL) • Cornwall, Ont. • F • 5-11 • 183

Delisle is a smooth-skating centerman with a high-end IQ. He has played the last three seasons and 194 games in the OHL, tallying 119 points with 49 goals and 70 assists. He scored 31 goals and added 33 assists during the 2025-26 season with Owen Sound. Delisle appeared in 60 games for Owen Sound in 2024-25 and 63 games for Oshawa in 2023-24.

Austin Moline • Madison (USHL) • Las Vegas, N.V. • D • 6-5 • 209

Moline is a big and strong puck-moving defenseman who can shut down top lines. He was a seventh-round NHL Draft pick by the Philadelphia Flyers in 2024 with the 205th overall selection. Moline has played the last two seasons in the USHL with Madison. He skated in 17 games in 2025-26, registering nine points, and 59 games in 2024-25, tallying 21 points with a plus-39 rating, which was the third-highest in the USHL. Moline played three seasons for Shattuck St. Mary’s.
