PARADISE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Several Michigan state parks will hold higher restrictions towards fireworks on this Fourth of July, as a courtesy towards veterans, pet owners, and others sensitive to loud noises.
Most projectile fireworks like bottle rockets, roman candles and firecrackers are already illegal to light on the grounds of a state park, while sparklers and ground spinners are still allowed.
A main area of concern around the holiday is those affected by PTSD, leading the Michigan DNR and Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency to provide a list of 11 fireworks-free campgrounds, typically in more secluded locations, like Tahquamenon Falls State Park.
The participating parks will post signage and inform each incoming visitor on their regulations, to further refrain campers from causing a disturbance.
“We’re about 11 miles from the nearest fireworks,” explained Tahquamenon Falls State Park Manager, Kevin Dennis. “So, a combination of that, and educating our visitors, hopefully we’ll have another quiet Fourth of July weekend here.”
While the explosives will be prominent throughout the rest of the summer, the parks will continue the courtesy into the coming weeks.
