Zelenskyy Meets with Global Leaders, Trump Pushes for Peace in Ukraine

WASHINGTON, D.C. – During the President’s trip to France for the G7 summit, Donald Trump said he will push for peace in Ukraine. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the G7 leaders pledged more help for Ukraine as their war with Russia continues.

“We had a very good conversation yesterday with President Zelenskyy and President Putin and I see maybe we can do something there,” said Trump on Tuesday.

Ukraine’s President attended the summit. He said leaders there promised to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses and support its energy supply, as well as step up economic pressure on Moscow.

The war has lasted for more than four years. In a show of continued support for Ukraine, the House passed legislation in early June that would provide $8-billion in loans to Ukraine and $1.8-billion in aid for military and security assistance. It would also sanction key parts of the Russian economy. The measure heads to the Senate.

“I can only salute the heroism of the Ukrainian soldiers,” said Sen. John Fetterman (D- PA) last week. “They’ve redefined warfare and the drone war for four and a half years its remarkable and I’m always proud to stand with that and vote for whatever kind of support that’s required. That war needs to end.”

Last week we asked both of Pennsylvania’s Senators about support for Ukraine.

“We need to find a resolution to this and end the war,” said Sen. Dave McCormick (D- PA). “I have been supportive of three things: ending the fighting a ceasefire agreement probably on the lines of demarcation. I’ve been supportive of the Europeans stepping up to provide a security force and the United States supporting that not with troops on the ground but with equipment and intel and I’ve been supportive of the idea we should develop the rare earth minerals that would help pay American taxpayers back.”

“That’s critical,” responded Fetterman on the rare earth minerals. “Very critical.”

“That’s a huge opportunity together,” said McCormick. “The Senator is right: Ukraine has innovated incredibly and we can learn a lot from drone warfare from what they’ve done.”
