GWINN, Mich. (WZMQ) – This past weekend, an example of true thoughtfulness came from a boy in Gwinn.
Jeremiah Williams is celebrating his 8th birthday later this month, and held his party on Saturday. However, instead of receiving gifts for himself, he decided to give back, welcoming community donations for the Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter. An online post brought in community members to a local park with donations, and each donation earned them a cupcake.
“He set up a donation box and spent his party sorting items,” said Cheyenne Williams, Jeremiah’s mother. “His face lit up with every can of kitten food that went in.”
UPAWS received multiple bags of pet food and treats, cleaning supplies, and a tote full of toys. Cheyenne says with his big heart, he sees the need around him and acts, heightened by his love for animals.
“He has a big heart especially for animals, but a big heart overall for humanity and people in need,” explained Cheyenne. “He has volunteered countless times over the past few years with Sawyer Community Enrichment, putting together homeless bags, wrapping gifts for needy families, and helping put on events for our community. At home, he’s the first to jump in and help care for his disabled brother, reading to him, making him laugh, and never treating him like a burden. He’s also has helped his family foster kittens, bottle feeding the tiniest ones through the night and nursing them until they’re ready for their forever homes.”
Jeremiah will officially celebrate his 8th birthday on June 21.
Any donations can be made to UPAWS online. These can also be made in tribute of a remembrance or special occasion, such as Jeremiah’s birthday.
