GWINN, Mich. (WZMQ) – A park in K.I. Sawyer got a fresh start this afternoon – and the community showed up to celebrate.
Little Trout Lake Park held its grand reopening and ribbon cutting after extensive renovations funded through a Michigan DNR SPARK Grant. The revamped park now features a lake-top pavilion, pickleball and volleyball courts, a youth sand and water play area, ADA accessible pathways, and a performing arts space – all designed to serve as a community wellness hub.
Hundreds turned out throughout the afternoon for live music, a food truck, and a five-K fun run.
Michigan Healthy Climate Fellow, Grace Freed, says the park is about more than just recreation: “This is a community gathering space, its a wellness hub,” says Freed. “You have the trails, the space for other events like this one to be held, sports leagues… just so many opportunities for people to get together out here.”
Little Trout Lake Park is open to the public and free to visit year round.
