MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Marquette City Band will be performing its first show of the summer on Thursday, June 11 in the Marquette Commons.
The band returns with its largest group ever, kicking off the season with a lineup of familiar 20th century pieces. Director Steve Grugin says the band combines all different ages and skill ranges from around the area.
“They sound great, it’s an excellent group. We have over 100 people in the band right now, which is more than ever,” he said. “We have community musicians, college students, and a couple of high school students. Everybody comes together for it.”
Thursday’s free concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Marquette Commons. Attendees are asked to bring their own chairs to the venue, as seating is not readily available. In the case of a rain delay, it will be relocated to Reynolds Recital Hall at Northern Michigan University.
The band is also extra excited to soon begin performing at the new Peg Hirvonen Bandshell on Presque Isle, with a opening concert and dedication ceremony on June 25th at 7:00 p.m. To view a full schedule for this summer, visit marquettecityband.com.
