ISHPEMING, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Ishpeming Lions Club hosted its second annual Fruit and Nut Tree Giveaway at the Partridge Creek Community Farm, drawing dozens of community members.
Residents could take home up to three free trees of their choice after a hands-on planting demonstration.
The event is part of a broader effort to address food insecurity in the region by empowering families to grow their own food locally.
Attendees walked away with everything they needed to get started.
“They are receiving fruit and nut trees of their choice as well as the materials to protect them and feed them,” says Keats Dormont, the Ishpeming Lions Club president and Partridge Creek Farm Education Coordinator. “We gave everyone compost extract, which is rich in micro-organisms, as well as nutrients so they can get their trees off and running.”
Donations collected at the event will help keep the program growing for years to come.
