MANISTIQUE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A new art exhibit premieres this week in Manistique.
Lake Effect Community Arts Center is hosting “Vibrant Rebellion,” a show by local artist Jamie John Hider. Hider’s paintings depict a variety of famous musicians and performers, including acts like The Beatles and Prince, each with their signature look.
A musician himself, Hider’s appreciation for the work of other artists shines through his own art.
“Jamie’s paintings are so intricate that they hide all of these clues and little Easter eggs inside of them,” said Katie Birdsley, Operations Manager at Lake Effect Community Arts. “When you look at each one, you get to see, ‘Oh, this is from that album,’ or, ‘Who’s that artist?’ It’s a fun guessing game to see how that creativity carries over from his music into his painting.”
“Vibrant Rebellion” opens with a public reception on Friday, May 1, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., coinciding with the kickoff of Manistique’s inaugural spring Ladies Weekend. The exhibit will be available to view through May 27. The Lake Effect gallery is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
