Huskies still have a chance to qualify for GLIAC Tournament

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech soccer team held a 16-15 advantage in shots and earned a penalty kick, but could not find the offense needed to defeat Roosevelt, falling 2-0 at Kearly Stadium on Senior Day.

“We didn’t possess the ball well in the second half and that threw us off and Roosevelt capitalized on a few of our mistakes and brought some energy,” said Tech head coach Melissa Kuhar. “This was a battle for the last spot in the GLIAC tournament and if things fall our way and we can take care of business next Saturday maybe we can make it still but there was a lot  riding on this game.”

Michigan Tech (2-13-1, 2-9-1 GLIAC) outshot Roosevelt (5-9-1, 3-8-1 GLIAC) 12 to five, registering four shots on goal while holding a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Huskies maintained momentum for most of the opening half, but the two teams entered halftime tied.

In the 57th minute, Michigan Tech drew a penalty kick and had the opportunity to find the back of the net, but the Lakers’ goalkeeper, Roxana Herrera, stood tall and made the save of the day on the shot by Allison Millina, who scored on a penalty kick earlier this season at Roosevelt.

The Lakers outshot Michigan Tech 9-4 in the second half and scored minutes after the penalty shot with a goal scored by Carisma Rosales in the 61st minute to put the Huskies behind by one.

The Huskies accrued three shots and a corner kick after allowing the first goal of the game, but could not land a shot on goal.
Roosevelt put the game away with a late goal by Rosales in the 89th minute to decide the game 2-0.

Goalkeeper Ludesha Reynolds made three saves on the day as Olivia Gette had a team-high three shots with one on goal.

The Huskies will close out the regular season on Saturday, welcoming Purdue Northwest to Kearly Stadium, slated for a noon start time.
