New student artwork displayed in Jackson Mine Park

NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The City of Negaunee has unveiled a new line of ‘Art in the Park’ in Jackson Mine Park.

Over the past six months, Negaunee high-school art students have worked with the school’s woodshop class to create nine separate kiosks, each with two sides of student art. Funded by Honor Credit Union, the new installments can be found along the sidewalks throughout the park.

After a pause in the project last year, students involved were excited to continue with their own ‘locally themed’ pieces of art.

“They’re pretty excited, they’re familiar with the artwork, they were like, ‘yeah! I want to be a part of that,'” said Negaunee High School Art Teacher, Kim Shefchik. “There were actually kids from all corners of the school that I didn’t even realize would want to do it, that wanted to take part in the project.”

Soon, the city will add QR codes with links to the artist’s information and details about each piece.
