NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ) – In an effort to insure a section of Old Town Negaunee remains for recreational use only, the city is considering a land swap. The swap would involve exchanging 40 acres of land owned by the city on Miller Road, for 40 acres, owned by a private company adjacent to Old Town Negaunee
The goal of this transaction would be to secure the Old Town property for the city of Negaunee, who would keep the parcel undeveloped for recreational use only, while allowing the Miller Road property to be developed for residential housing. Tonight the city council voted to continue negotiations and reach a fair outcome for everyone involved.
“The properties we could obtain would be used for recreational use only, as we have most of Old Town for that as well. The property that we would be essentially giving them in trade would be used for whatever they desire. right now, it is zoned for housing,” said Heffron.
There is no time-table for the deal, except to say negotiations are on-going
