ISHPEMING, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Ishpeming Rotary Club is investing in the future, and they’re making it official.
The club held its first annual check presentation in Ishpeming this afternoon, combining what were once scattered awards into one dedicated event.
Five local students each received $750 scholarships, while the Women’s Center in Marquette and an upcoming Kriskindlmarkt vendor through the Ishpeming DDA also received funding.
Club president Nate Heffron says the impact goes beyond just the money. “This is just one little bit that we can help advance these students’ careers, and to advance their life skills,” says Heffron. “With students it’s especially difficult… everyone knows college is getting more expensive, so whatever we can do to be a little part of that, we hope we can give back to them, and one day they’ll be able to give back to their community as well.”
All together, the club handed out $7,000 dollars, and they have hopes of holding another ceremony in the upcoming Fall or Winter.
