Governor launches $1M “Ticket to Tuition” FAFSA sweepstakes

LANSING, Mich. (WZMQ) – High school seniors who file their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) could be eligible for a prize of up to $50,000.

On Wednesday at Eastern High School in Lansing, Governor Whitmer launched a $1 million FAFSA sweepstakes called ‘Ticket to Tuition’.

The sweepstakes is giving high school seniors who file their FAFSA a chance at $10,000 to $50,000 prizes. The funds will be awarded to Michigan Education Savings Program accounts for students to use for college expenses like tuition, living expenses, computers, and textbooks.

To enter, students must complete their FAFSA and text ‘CASH’ to (855) 50K-TICKET or (855) 505-8425 before May 16th. Ticket to Tuition includes 40 $10,000 prizes and 10 $50,000 prizes, all for completing a form that can take less than 30 minutes to file.

“In Michigan, we want to make it easier and possible for everyone to build the life that they want and that they deserve, because if you want to live and work in Michigan, we’ve got your back,” Whitmer said. “Filling out the FAFSA makes you eligible for 10s of thousands of dollars in state and federal scholarships, and with today’s sweepstakes, you can earn some extra money, too.”

The sweepstakes is a partnership between the Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP) and the Michigan College Access Network (MCAN).

MCAN’s executive director said fewer students have been filing their FAFSAs for the past few years. He hopes these incentives will make sure more Michigan students take advantage of state and federal funds to help them through their educational careers.
