NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ) – With prices increasing over the past year, many consumers are finding other ways to get their eggs.
Tractor Supply Company is the largest retailer of live poultry in the country. Each year, they sell around 10 million chicks through their ‘Chick Days’ program, to those looking to hatch their own.
Tractor Supply’s Community Relations Manager, Marti Skold-Jordan says this self sufficient route has become much more popular in the past few years, saving customers expensive trips to the grocery store.
“A lot of folks are moving to raising their own chickens,” said Skold-Jordan. “In fact, one in five of our customers raise chickens, it’s gone up about 50% over the last few years, all due to egg prices and Avian Influenza.”
The chicks are available at local Tractor Supply stores or online at tractorsupply.com through late summer.
