MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Wednesday evening, Barrel and Beam held a collaborative event with the Fred Waara chapter of Trout Unlimited from Marquette. Since the 1980’s, the chapter’s mission has been to protect and restore cold water fisheries in the Upper Peninsula.
Community members came to the brewery for a social night, featuring presentations from the local chapter and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. They spoke on the importance of cold water quality, and shared many available resources for trout anglers.
“We’ve been pushing for this event for years,” said Doug Miller, the vice president of the Fred Waara Chapter. “It’s important to hold events like this to help fund these projects we’re doing.” Around 120 people were in attendance at ‘Trout on Tap.’
Alongside the presentations, Barrel and Beam unveiled a new beer during the event called ‘Fontinalis.’ Its title derives from the scientific name of the brook trout; Salvelinus Fontinalis, and features all Michigan grown ingredients. Iron Fish Distillery has also produced a new bourbon for the chapter as well. All proceeds from both sales go directly towards the local Trout Unlimited chapter.
The chapter is also excited to be holding a film festival at Northern Michigan University in April to raise more money. For more information, go to their website.
