ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Friday, Downtown Escanaba was filled with crowds of people, lights, and holiday cheer for the annual Christmas Parade.
More than 70 local businesses and organizations participated in this year’s parade, which started at City Hall and ended at Stephenson Avenue. Many played Christmas music and tossed candy as they drove through Ludington Street. Some attendees brought donations for the Toys for Tots float, while the U.S. Postal Service collected letters to send to Santa.
Organizer and DDA Board member Janice Beauchamp says the Christmas Parade continues to delight community members year after year.
“It brings a lot of people out,” she said. “I think it’s kind of also the kickoff of the official Christmas season for the children events. Since the parade has been changed to the evening like this, I think the lights just add a magical theme to the whole event.”
After the parade, attendees gathered at the Marketplace to tell Santa and Mrs. Claus what they’d like to find under the Christmas tree.
