SANDS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – At least one person was hospitalized after multiple crashes at an intersection in Sands Township Tuesday morning.
The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was first called around 7:09 a.m. to County Road 480 and Cherry Creek Rd. A 25-year-old man from Traunik was traveling westbound on CR480 when he hit a patch of ice and went into the ditch. His passenger, a 51-year-old Marquette man, received minor injuries.
Shortly after that, a head-on collision occurred between a 19-year-old man from Marquette and a 60-year-old woman from Palmer. The woman was transported to UP Health System- Marquette for non-life-threatening injuries. A second crash then occurred between the 19-year-old and a 41-year-old man from Negaunee. The 19-year-old was found at fault for the crash and was cited. Snow, ice, and speed are believed to be factors.
Due to the traffic backup, a semi-truck became stuck in the roadway on a patch of ice but was not involved in the crash.
