MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Marquette County’s top clerk just became the top clerk in the entire state.
Linda Talsma, the Marquette County Clerk, was named Michigan’s Clerk of the Year by the Michigan Association of County Clerks at their annual conference last week.
She was selected from a pool of 83 county clerks statewide by a committee made up of past recipients of the award. Linda oversees a wide range of responsibilities, and looks out for the residents of the community, from birth certificates and marriage licenses to court proceedings and voting.
Linda says the recognition isn’t about the title, it’s about the people. “Hopefully, people will be proud to say “hey I know that lady and I worked with her” or some thing or the other,” says Talsma. “Hopefully they’ll say “I felt that I could connect with her and she helped me through a really difficult time in my life.”
Linda Talsma has served as Marquette County Clerk since 2016. She is the first clerk from the county to receive the statewide honor.
