ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Tuesday, Delta County seniors learned about services and resources available in their community.
The Daily Press hosted its annual Senior Expo at the Highland Golf Club. Attendees heard from doctors, the Delta County Cancer Alliance, OSF St. Francis Hospital, LakeHouse Escanaba, the Delta Area Transit Authority, and other local organizations.
While many don’t currently need some of the services those organizations provide, Delta County Cancer Alliance President Gayle DeShambo says it is important for seniors to prepare for the future.
“Some of the topics that are being discussed are not necessarily relevant to them right now, but sometimes if they wait too long to listen to some of this information and act on it, it can make life harder for them,” said DeShambo. “If somebody is offering some kind of service or information that they should document and follow up with, take that advice now and don’t wait until it’s an emergency.”
Seniors were also able to help others in their community at the expo by donating non-perishable foods to the Seventh Day Adventist Pantry in Escanaba.
