ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Escanaba was aglow Friday evening as community members came together for a good cause.
Mission of Hope hosted its 6th annual Glow Run through Ludington Park at dusk. Participants wore light-up necklaces and bracelets and carried glowing batons as they walked or ran the 5k route.
The only cost to join the Glow Run was a donation of a new pair of shoes. Mission of Hope wants to help families in need send their children to school this fall feeling confident, and intern Tyler Barteld says providing a new pair of shoes is a great way to do that.
“It’s one of those items that oftentimes comes with a hefty price tag, and sometimes parents can’t swing that,” said Barteld. “We have people who can supply those needs, so we ask that people step out, really supply that, and then we can step in and just bless someone’s day with a pair of shoes.”
Mission of Hope will be giving the shoes to families in need for free on Sunday, August 4, at the U.P. State Fairgrounds. Volunteers will also distribute free school supplies, backpacks, hygiene products, laundry soap, and diapers.
The event runs from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and will also include food, a photobooth, preventative substance abuse resources for youth, and children’s activities. Click here for more information.
