Escanaba City Council approves Kwik Trip resolution at former Super One site and other redevelopment projects

ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Several vacant properties in Escanaba are officially on track to getting a new lease on life.

On Thursday, the City Council approved a resolution to renovate the old County Jail, located behind the Delta County Courthouse, into a Hampton Inn. The resolution also includes the construction of two condominium buildings and a mixed-use facility at the former Chamber of Commerce on Ludington Street.

City Council approved another resolution to transform the former Super One on North Lincoln Road into a Kwik Trip fuel station and convenience store. The store would be nearly 10,000 square feet, and Kwik Trip aims to bring 40 to 50 new jobs to the area.

“All around, the Kwik Trip proposal has been impressive,” said City Manager Jim McNeil. “…Right now, everywhere over there is a parking lot or a building. This would provide some stormwater retention. The economic impact certainly is better than we could’ve anticipated. Overall, it’s close to $9 million of private investment, and the job creation… and all the benefits they provide to employees to is pretty impressive.”

“I think this is a wonderful thing,” added Mayor Pro Tem Karen Moore. “Kwik Trip believes in Escanaba, and I think this is going to spur lots of other businesses coming here too.”

Kwik Trip hopes to be open for business in 2026. Click here for more information on the approved resolutions from July’s Brownfield Redevelopment Authority meeting.
