MARQUETTE, Mich, (WZMQ) – Business and community members from Marquette got together on Saturday to kick off the annual “Nifty 250” fundraiser to support the Women’s Center of Marquette County.
The Women’s Center provides housing, counseling, legal assistance, and other services to victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse in Marquette and Alger Counties, and Women’s Center Executive Director Jennine Frazier said events like the Nifty 250 are a big part of keeping their mission going.
“We are the organization in town that, if you are in need, you are in danger, give us a call,” said Frazier. “Our community is a huge part of being able to offer these programs and services. Without are community coming together like this we wouldn’t be able to do what we do.”
Saturday’s kick-off of the month-long fundraiser was at the Women’s Center Thrift Store “Pack Ratz,” and included a party, raffle, food truck, and fashion show with 20 models from businesses around Marquette.
Andrea Numikoski, the Women’s Center development director, said it’s more than just a good cause that made the show special, but also the unique story that each model brought to the runway.
“The models, they’ve really put their heart and soul into this,” said Numikoski. “We all bring our own identity, and we wanted to provide that opportunity for our participants and our models.”
WZMQ 19 is a proud sponsor of Nifty 250.
