ISHPEMING, Mich. (WZMQ) – UPDATE: No injuries are reported after a large, destructive house fire in the City of Ishpeming late Thursday night.
The Ishpeming Fire Department says the call came in around 10 p.m. for a fire on West Johnson St. The house was fully engulfed with flames through the windows when firefighters arrived. Firefighters were told the resident was not home at the time.
Multiple fire crews were on scene for four hours until the fire was extinguished. The scene was cleared at 2 a.m. Friday.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. A Michigan State Police Fire Investigation Unit has been contacted to assist with the investigation.
Ishpeming Fire was assisted on the scene by Ishpeming Township Fire Department, Marquette County Rescue 131, UP Health System – Bell 111, Ishpeming Police Department, Michigan State Police, Ishpeming DPW, Marquette County Central Dispatch, SEMCO Energy, and UPPCO.

Multiple fire departments are assisting at the scene of a large structure fire in Ishpeming Thursday night.
Few details are known at this time, but witnesses at the scene say it appears the structure is on West Johnson St. and is fully engulfed. Fire crews have closed down surrounding streets.
One witness who lives nearby tells WZMQ she heard two loud explosions at the start of the fire and believes it may be a house.
It’s unknown at this time when the fire started, if there was anyone inside, or any possible injuries. WZMQ will keep you updated as we learn more.
