Iron Mountain residents persist through spring blizzard

IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) – Residents braved a relentless spring storm that blanketed the area in snow, causing power outages and disrupting daily life. Despite the challenges, Iron Mountain’s community remained active, with varying opinions on the weather.

At Joe’s Quick Mart, attendants witnessed a surge in customers seeking essentials and quick energy boosts. Brad Champagne, a clerk at the mart, noted, “A lot of people prefer our zero-ethanol premium, so they come for the snowblowers and any of their outdoor toys that they’re using today.”

Champagne added that cab drivers started their routes promptly at 4:00 a.m., with the mail carriers beginning shortly after that.

Amidst the flurry of activity, Alex Clothier made his way past Joe’s Quick Mart to Hardcore Outfitters to practice archery, undeterred by the weather. “Taking a walk over to Hardcore Outfitters, gonna do some archery,” he stated. “I do recurve, they do more of the compound. They’re real good with compound and crossbow, and all that.”

However, not everyone welcomed the heavy snowfall. Ken Bednard expressed his dislike for the wet, heavy snow, stating, “I don’t like that heavy wet stuff. It’s too hard on the body.”

Despite the inconvenience, some residents found solace in the storm’s potential benefits for agriculture. Dave Slattery reflected, “I think it’s okay, because we need the rain. We need the moisture. I think that the ecosystem is messed up.”

Iron Mountain residents, resilient in the face of adversity, continued with their daily routines, demonstrating their determination to persevere despite the weather’s challenges.
