Michigan’s Attorney General launches utility website

LANSING, Mich. (WZMQ) – Michigan’s Office of the Attorney General has launched a new website to connect consumers and ratepayers directly to their utility providers.

The new website is dedicated to the department’s work intervening in utility cases on behalf of ratepayers and includes updated information on outage credit criteria from the Michigan Public Servise Commission (MPSC), utility performance reports and rankings, and links for residents to attend meetings of, or file their own comment before, the MPSC.

The new site is intended to help residents and local units of government find multiple sources of information in one place.

You don’t have a choice who provides you your gas or your electric That decision was made for you, so we think that it’s extra important for consumers when it comes to utilities to have more of a say.

Attorney General Dana Nessel

The website highlights the Department’s Power Outage Credit Feedback & Inquiry Form. This form provides an outlet for feedback to help the Attorney General track outage-related trends and patterns to help with her ratepayer advocacy. Consumers who believe they were owed a credit for a power outage, but didn’t receive it, or received less than they believed they were owed are also encouraged to complete the form. The form is available for both residential and business customers.

Attorney General Dana Nessel explained that her office often talks with consumers who don’t know where to find information about their utility providers or rate hikes. She said they hope to create a more direct line of communication between ratepayers and providers with the functions on the new website, Michigan.gov/AGutilities.
