MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A wild police chase in Marquette County late Monday night ended with a damaged police vehicle but no injuries.
Police say they tried to pull over a pickup truck near North Third and Magnetic when the driver took off. At one point, the vehicle left the road, down an embankment and onto the US-41 bypass. For a while, officers lost the vehicle. A tip from a citizen put police back on the trail and truck sped off again. The pursuit continued throughout the city ending up on County Road 550.
The truck crashed through a gate at the entrance to the Huron Mountain Club. It crashed into trees and the driver fled but was caught after a short chase. Police say the driver was a 17-year-old male from downstate Michigan and they believe alcohol was a contributing factor.
The unidentified juvenile was turned over to his parents following an evaluation. Police say the truck hit a Marquette Police Department patrol vehicle, but no one was hurt. Police say they are turning the case over to the Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
WZMQ has left a message with the Huron Mountain Club for a statement, and will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
