MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – For Halloween in Marquette this Saturday, city police are reminding residents and drivers about staying safe.
Trick-or-Treating hours are recommended from 4 p.m. through 7 p.m. Drivers should expect heavy pedestrian traffic in neighborhoods and in downtown areas.
If Trick-or-Treating, make sure to stay visible as it now gets darker much sooner. Families should travel in groups, using sidewalks and following pedestrian traffic laws. If you’re driving around Saturday night, be sure to turn your lights on earlier in the day and slow down, as trick-or-treaters of any age can be unpredictable.
“Expect the unexpected,” said Marquette City Police Captain James Finkbeiner. “Kids are excited, you just never know what could happen.”
The weekend festivities won’t just apply to children in costumes. Finkbeiner says to stay aware of other drivers and older pedestrians into the evening.
“Halloween is not exclusive to younger kids,” he said. “Between different parties or bars, always have a plan or a sober driver to take you home.”
Halloween celebrations with local businesses will also take place throughout the afternoon. Be sure to stop by the WZMQ 19 News office for candy from 1 p.m. through 4 p.m. on Saturday during the Downtown Marquette Trick-or-Treating event!
