ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Wednesday, Holy Name Catholic School students got first-hand experience in commerce, as well as in helping those in need.
The school hosted its annual Entrepreneur Day event in the afternoon. Students of all grade levels made crafts and treats to sell.
The event typically brings in about $1,000. All of the money raised will go to Sirvientes de Cristo, a mission in Honduras.
“We pray they learn organization, developing a skill to sell, but also we’re trying to demonstrate the virtues of charity and practice what we are learning,” said Acting Principal and Deacon Bob Berbohm. “We truly believe that our school is a way of life, and this is the kids’ way of giving back and demonstrating to us.”
Entrepreneur Day was part of Holy Name’s National Catholic Schools Week celebration. On Monday, students wore patriotic colors and made cards for service members and nursing home residents. On Tuesday, they dressed as their favorite Bible character or saint. On Thursday, students will participate in a talent show, followed by Spirit Day on Friday, with the middle and high schools coming together.
