IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) – Two people have minor injuries and an Iron Mountain home is damaged but still standing after a fire early Friday morning.
The Iron Mountain Fire Department was called to 700 East D St. around 12:45 a.m. IMFD says a 2.5-story home had light smoke coming from the second story when fire crews arrived.
The homeowner had used a fire extinguisher to put out a majority of the fire. Fire crews began ventilation on the home and checked for any pockets of fire in the ceiling. Firefighters put out the remaining fire extension and removed debris and insulation from the home.
The odor of smoke was through a majority of the home, but fire damage was limited to the room where the fire began.
Two people were injured: one resident of the home was taken to the hospital with burns on their hands, and another resident complained of minor smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene.
Crews cleared the scene by 2:18 a.m.
Assisting at the scene were Officers from the Iron Mountain Police Department, and Integrity Care EMS.
The homeowner had working smoke alarms and fire extinguishers which helped with the outcome of this incident.
