The recent snowfall has forced organizers to cancel a portion of the Ishpeming Ski Jump Tournament.
The junior tournament scheduled for Sunday has been called off. According to the tournament director the heavy snow and frigid temperatures make it impossible to prepare the mountain for competition. Due to limited manpower the group focused on making sure the 90 meter jump would be prepared.
The Ishpeming Ski Club says the junior tournament will be rescheduled at a later date this winter.
Tournament officials are confident the 137th year of the event will still be one to remember.
“You won’t even notice a difference, we have had competitions in the past that have only been the 90 meter hill, it’s gonna be pretty much seamless again,” remarked Peter Copenhaver, the Vice President of the Ishpeming Ski Club.
Opening ceremonies for the ski jumping tournament kick off Friday night at 7 p.m. A full schedule for jumping this weekend can be found here.
Tickets can be purchased online here for $15 or for $20 at the gate.
