NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ) – According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the average small business owner is over the age of 55, but one young woman from Negaunee is defying that average.

Most teenagers are focused on school work and hanging out with friends, but 19 year old Savannah Sevengy has turned her passion for fashion into a business.

“I grew up in the life of entrepreneurship, my dad is an entrepreneur, my mom is an entrepreneur, both my grandmas were as well   ” said Savannah Sevegney.

Sevegney opened Modern Drift Boutique in May, the store offers fashion for women of all ages, alongside a variety of handmade local jewelry and gifts.

“We’ve got dresses, we’ve got casual, we’ve got business attire,” commented Sevegney.

Alongside running her business, Sevegney is a full time online college student. When she’s not restocking shelves or ordering inventory, you can find her finishing homework behind the front desk.

“You know you just have a good schedule and have that discipline and know that a college degree is going to get you farther in what you are excited about,” added Savannah Sevegney.

The store is located in Negaunee, where Sevegney grew up, she says that opening a business in the community was a way to express her love for the town.

“Here you can just know everybody, you can just go into a coffee shop and say hey there is my friend or my uncle, it’s just really nice to have that level of support throughout the community,” remarked Savannah Sevegney.

Speaking of coffee, the young entrepreneur has made her presence known in the community. Soon a local coffee shop will be releasing a collaboration with Modern Drift Boutique.

“We’re super, super excited,” exclaimed Savannah Sevegney.

According to Sevegny’s father, watching her grow an idea into an operational business has been a very rewarding experience.

“She has done so much, tried so much, learned so much, I am just really proud,” said Fran Sevegney, Savannah’s father.

Modern Drift Boutique is open 12 to 6 Tuesday through Thursday 11 to 6 on Fridays and 10 to 4 on Saturdays.
