ISHPEMING, Mich. (WZMQ) – An annual art competition is aiming to break the stigma around mental health issues and suicide. West End Suicide Prevention is kicking off its 4th Annual Live Art and Word Contest and this year they’ve expanded to allow middle schoolers, high schoolers, and adults to participate.

The art submissions can include anything from poetry, paintings, photography, and even quilting. Each piece will be judged by the WESP and by an Expert Panel and one person from each age group will win a cash grand prize of up to $500.

“A lot of what we’ve seen in the past has been really heartfelt the art brings tears to people’s eyes, realizing what the individual is going through and this other person feels the same way I do and I’m not alone and there are other people out there as well,” commented WESP Facilitator Amy Poirier.
