MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – One man has been rescued after falling over the cliff at Presque Isle Park in Marquette around 2:30 Saturday afternoon.
According to the Marquette City Fire Department at the scene, the man was too close to the edge when he fell over. He only fell about halfway down the cliff, but was uninjured in the fall. He could not make his way back up the cliff.
Once the fire fighters located the man, one member of the crew repelled down on a line and was able to utilize a pick off strap to get the man safely back up to the top of the cliff. He was checked out by EMS, who cleared him to leave on his own. The man was rescued roughly 10 to 15 minutes after the fire department was dispatched to the cliff.
The Marquette City Fire Department wants to remind hikers and visitors to the park to be cautious when walking near the edge of the cliffs, and on the trails that go around the park as some do get close to the edge.
WZMQ will update this story as more information becomes available.
