MARQUETTE, Mich (WZMQ) – The Marquette City Band had their opening performance for the 2024 summer season. However due to the weather they did have to move the performance to the Reynolds Recital Hall on Northern Michigan University Campus.
This band has been performing for over 100 years, and up till recently always has been outside. There is a wide age range from people just starting with the band to members who have been playing for over 50 years with the band. Members come from all across the U.P. to join this band.
“Our musicians are local from the U.P. Marquette area Negaunee, we’ll occasionally have people coming up from Escanaba area Iron Mountain area almost all exclusively in the Marquette area”, Gordon Erickson, Marquette City Band President.
They performed classical music, one being Normandy Beach. This song composed by John Edmondson was for the anniversary of D-Day and all those lots. There are concerts every week on Thursday until August 8th. For more information go to their Facebook page.
